"This is the 2nd time my basement room has flooded during rain (the window well filled up halfway to the top of the window). Each time has caused some damage to property as well [as] a loss of time to scoop water out and watch for another flood. [My rental agency] is suggesting that too much rain has caused the issue, and [it’s] not necessarily a drainage issue. However, even after the first time, they did not replace the beyond-repair sun-damaged well cover and simply sent someone in with a giant fan and microban to prevent molding.
I am daring to request a month's compensation as well as proper repair for the window well. Am I in the wrong? Could this cause me further issues with my rental agency?"

TurboTenant’s Take 💬
Unexpected flooding is such a drip! We feel for you, Mr. Tenant, but we don’t think your request in its current form is going to be successful. You should respectfully address the situation, but receiving payment for your time is unlikely.
Remember that you’re working with your landlord to solve this problem - it isn’t a question of you vs. them!
If you have renters insurance, submit a claim for any damaged items. Be sure to document any damage to the property, including an image of the well cover, then send everything to your rental agency along with a maintenance request via email. Their landlord insurance should cover any damage to the property itself. We hope you stay safe and dry!
We'd love to hear your take! ✍️
