Pay stub red flags… HELP!

Hello there! I have a question about pay stubs and how to spot fakes. I have a tenant who is applying to a rental I have in Colorado. He is a friend of a friend of a friend (its a small town) but from what I heard he got let go from his job 2 months ago because of a DUI. When I asked him to send his pay stub to verify his income, he sent one over but it’s from the job he was fired from…. BUT the dates said last week?! Seems suspicious to me. Was just wondering if anyone had recommendations on how to spot a fake pay stub.
