Meet the TurboTeam: Rodrigo Ferreira

Rodrigo Ferreira is the Senior Software Engineer at TurboTenant.

TurboTenant is currently made up of over 80 full-time employees, most of whom are based in Colorado near either our Fort Collins or Denver offices. The exception is our Engineering team, which is made up of experts living all over the world, crisscrossing languages and time zones to work together at making our product the best in the industry.

One such engineering expert is Rodrigo Ferreira, Senior Software Engineer at TurboTenant. At our annual Obsess Fest, in which TurboTenant flies every employee into Colorado for a week of bonding and strategizing, we talked with Rodrigo about what makes TurboTenant such a great place for international team members to work.

Rodrigo Ferreira

What is your name and where are you from?

My name is Rodrigo Ferreira, and I’m from Paraguay.

How long have you been at TurboTenant?

Almost three years. It’s going to be three years in February.

What’s a unique aspect of being an engineer here?

I would say the culture, especially because we are a multi-cultural company. So it’s like really easy to be an engineer from South America, working with people from the US. So it’s really amazing to connect with these people from different backgrounds. It’s just really smooth. The communication in working with everyone and everything. So that’s what I like the most.

As a remote international engineer, how does TurboTenant ensure that you feel included in the team and culture?

From the beginning, all the communications, all the company swag, and all the activities. You are basically a part of all the activities that the company does. So it makes me feel really that I’m part of the company. So that’s amazing.

What initially drew you to TurboTenant?

I will say that, in the initial interview, it was really smooth talking to the interviewers. So that was really good. Also, I tried to identify red flags in the interview, and I didn’t manage to find any. So that was a really good criteria. It was a little bit of a difficult decision to choose TurboTenant, but after two years, I’m still grateful with myself that I made the decision because it keeps proving to me that it was the best decision I could make.

Can you share an example of how a specific TurboTenant Be Better virtue impacted your work?

I will say Make the Funnest Team of Our Career is the best virtue I can think of right now because it’s really good to be part of something and be really comfortable doing your job. Also being able to make mistakes and not feeling like you’re going to lose your job because of that.

So it’s really amazing to have these virtues and you can find different examples of how that positively affects your life.

Can you describe a recent engineering challenge that you tackled?

I think, while working on this recent feature called multi-user access, it was really challenging to test these different user accounts that are connected to one main account. And it was challenging to see the effects of these user tokens and we worked a lot with the team to come up with the best solution because sometimes the behavior of the application was different for these users.

And we want to deliver a more general experience of this application. And we managed to do that. But yes, it was really challenging and I’m happy with the result.
