Meet the TurboTeam: Goran Maksimovic

Goran Maksimovic is Senior QA Engineer at TurboTenant.

TurboTenant is currently made up of over 80 full-time employees, most of whom are based in Colorado near either our Fort Collins or Denver offices. The exception is our Engineering team, which is made up of experts living all over the world, crisscrossing languages and time zones to work together at making our product the best in the industry.

One such engineering expert is Goran Maksimovic, Senior QA Engineer at TurboTenant. At our annual Obsess Fest, in which TurboTenant flies every employee into Colorado for a week of bonding and strategizing, we talked with Goran about what makes TurboTenant such a great place for international team members to work.

Goran Maksimovic

What is your name and where are you from?

Hello, my name is Goran. I am from Serbia.

How long have you been at TurboTenant?

I’ve been here for two and a half years. It’s been a most exciting time.

What’s a unique aspect of being an engineer here?

So I would say people. When you start, you’re searching for, you know, career development, maybe domain in something. And then you realize that the people are your source that you’re learning from. And the people keep you in company and help you fulfill your daily work and make your life easier. And obviously happier. And achievements come with that.

Can you describe an engineering challenge that you tackled recently?

We had to make an upgrade to the new version of Cypress that required a lot of stuff. So buying a new Cypress package, and new pricing plan. Also migrating tests and changing configs. Also involvement of checking if all the projects could be applied to it. So it was a pretty challenging time, but on the other half it’s rewarding because it brought a lot of visibility to reports and tests got quicker. Quicker and shorter time to execute. So, yeah, this is the most recent one that I was involved in.

As a remote international engineer, how does TurboTenant ensure you feel included in the team and culture?

This! Right now, where we’re at. This is probably the biggest thing, but also in Serbia we as a team sometimes gather in office spaces and work together. So that keeps us, you know, socializing beyond our regular one on ones and daily work that we are collaborating about on a daily basis.

What initially drew you to TurboTenant?

So my friend actually recommended me to TurboTenant. I didn’t know anything about it. Also I’m a landlord, so that’s something that I’m excited for and that I’m wanting to learn more about. I would say domain and my friend’s recommendations, and the kinds of stories about the company, how it was built and how it functions. All really good stuff.

Can you share an example of how a specific Turbo or Archie impacted your work?

I would say Unlock Potential because previously in companies that I have worked, they were much bigger, and it’s hard to push for something like, for example, either asking for some stuff, switching to a new technology, or taking the time to do something. It’s always like, time consuming. You know, you need to put a lot of energy into small changes.

And here I see a lot of opportunities that people are actually pushing, like technology changes, and it’s much easier when people actually like what you’re pushing and see the value in that push. So I would say, yeah, that is the biggest for me: Unlock Potential.
